Oscar-winning Brokeback Mountain will be released on DVD on April 4th, Universal Studios Home Entertainment announced. The movie is still in theatres, which is unusual, but, as a spokeswoman for the DVD distributor explained, the movie’s theatre run has been extended due to the Academy Award success and it overlapped with the DVD release date.

The movie is directed by Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) and stars Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway and Michelle Williams. The script is based on a short story by Pulitzer-winning author Annie Proulx and tells the story of two young men, a rodeo cowboy and a ranch hand who meet in 1963 and fall in love.

It was nominated for 8 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor – Heath Ledger, Best Supporting Actress – Michelle Williams, Best Supporting Actor - Jake Gyllenhaal and Best Adapted Screenplay and picked up awards for Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Score.

The DVD is available for pre-order on amazon.com for the April 7th release and on amazon.co.uk for April 24th.

According to Amazon, the DVD will have English, French and Spanish subtitles and it will contain several extra features:
