Rumor Has It...
A look at what's in development

The summer movie season is finally, sadly over. To be honest, it was all down hill after Mission: Impossible III. I don’t know why, but everything seemed to be a huge disappointment this year, even the most anticipated film ever, Snakes on a Plane. And so, it must be with a sad and somber tone that I present to you all of the deals and projects to look forward to in the next couple years. But what does it really matter? Superman and X-Men and Pirates and Miami Vice…all ruined. I’m going to try not to get my hopes up for these movies, but if you want to you can, I guess. Sigh…
The Dark Knight ReturnsFirst of all, the title for the new Batman flick is The Dark Knight. This is kind of cool. I like that they aren’t trying to make the titles fit the whole Batman Begins theme. This movie is already getting exciting. Just like the first film, they are looking to bring back old and favorite characters, but they want them to be realistic.
As suggested by the end of the first film, the Joker will be the main villain in the sequel. But instead of going over-the-top with a comic actor, the people behind the movie have cast Heath Ledger in the role.
I can’t wait to see what he does with the Joker; he’s definitely proven that he can act with Brokeback Mountain, but I still can’t picture what it’ll be like. This is some interesting casting, though, and I can’t wait to see the makeup.
Rumored at this point is other famous villains will at least be making cameos in this film. From now extremely dated information, we know that Two-Face is more than likely the main nemesis of the third film in the series. Harvey Dent, Gotham City district attorney, becomes Two-Face when the Joker throws acid in his face while on trial. Rumor is that Ryan Phillippe is at the top of a short list for that role right now. And here’s a great rumor: Philip Seymour Hoffman may be playing the Penguin. Director Christopher Nolan has already tried to disprove that rumor, though, but from his comments it isn’t quite clear whether or not Hoffman has been approached for another role. Or maybe he won’t be Penguin in the next film, but rather, Oswald Cobblepot, the man who becomes the Penguin.
No matter what, this movie sounds interesting and Nolan says to expect something different.
