HUNGRY & VISITING NY???
5 Leaves Photos from Admin's Recent NY Trip

A 5 Leaves postcard is given with every bill.
It's well known by now, at least among the Heath fandom, that Heath was deeply involved in the creation of a new Australian nautical themed grub-pub. By January 2008, the location had been chosen, the licenses obtained, and remodeling plans based on Heath's ideas were being drawn up for the 18 Bedford Avenue location.
Heath had been so excited about this project that his father, Kim, decided to continue to fund the dream, and in September 2008, Heath's friend and partner Jud opened the restaurant on time.
The Five Leaves has thrived since it opened, serving quality Australian and American food, and the place is truly charmed. Its laid-back atmosphere, edgy but comfortable decor, classic music on the turntable, and laughter in the booths are a testament to the the love and careful attention given it by Jud and his wife, Kathy, in honor of a much beloved friend.
When you experience it, you'll know what I mean. It's run with such love and devotion, as if it's a newborn child, now a toddler, being carefully guided into adulthood. And it's gotten so busy, people are lining up at the door.
Although the engravings have now worn off the delicate marble tabletops, Heath has left his indelible mark on this location, the locals who frequent it, and the friends who now own it.
Below are some photos I took while on a recent NY trip.
EXTERIOR SHOTS
In the warmer months, outside tables add over 20 seats to the restaurant's capacity.

INTERIOR SHOTS

Bartender Fidel has the right musical touch; the music always improves when he comes on duty...

Nice little aesthetic touches with the lighting . . .

THE FOOD
The 5 Leaves Burger is an Aussie burger with organic free-range beef, a fried egg, pineapple, and a beet. I had mine served with a salad, but you can order regular fries or truffle fries.

Pavlova is a wonderful light Australian dessert. But by light, I mean light on the stomach; since it's made of spun sugar and egg much like meringue, it's most likely not light calorie-wise.
