Toronto International Film Festival: Most excellent Parties
By D.M.
Did you just hear that phenomenal crash? The Toronto International Film Festival has officially touched down, taking our fair city by storm in an overwhelming overture of glitz and pizzazz. For the next week or so, we’ll be eating, breathing and dreaming of all things film. So put on your scenester attire as there’s no finer way to accessorize a festival like this than with the accoutrements of ultra-exclusive parties.
Unfortunately, TIFF premiere parties are more often than not reserved for industry insiders; including the filmmakers themselves, their cast, and their respective clingers-on. These are not open admission events. Read: private, invite only, and don’t even think about it! But don’t lose heart for there’s a baker’s dozen of these galas every day throughout festival week. And once you’re in you’ll find yourself in the inebriated company of A-listers like J.Lo and Brad. That’s right: get drunk on all of that celebrity second-hand oxygen because you’ll be sharing atmosphere with the cream of the celluloid crop.
With only a few sightings – Heath Ledger lunching at Il Posto with a book, Jenny Aniston and Lance Bass styling the streets of Yorkville and The Annex respectively, R&B singer Massari spoiling himself at the Ultra Supper Club and later at Panorama, Sarah Polley (Bloor Street Diner) and Sook-Yin Lee (everywhere) – the first night of festivities seemed discouragingly unstudded with stars.
