Mel, I am with you on that. It was just plain wrong. So many things wrong that can never be put right.
Someday perhaps someone close to him will write a decent biography. I worry, though, that so much time will have elapsed between when we lost him and then, that the information will still be all wrong. That things printed right after he passed away will be taken as truth. For instance, that horrid Esquire "Last Days" piece, that caused so much controversy? Who is to say that years down the line, someone might latch on to that, and the fact that it is false will have gone by the wayside through the years? You see what I mean?
Somebody already kind of did that - they produced it as a play and I read an interview with the person who did it and they were talking about why people liked these things because it offers an insight into the subjects, to which my reaction was: you do understand it was fiction, right?

I am all for waiting for the right moment for the right biographer to come forth but I worry, and why not, nothing has gone right up til now.
Although if the biography has the blessing of his close family (not the uncles), then hopefully stuff like that can be avoided.
sigh.
I hope for the same thing Ruth. We're up to, what, four biographies now and only one is even worth looking at.
