COLOGNE, Germany -- Terry Gilliam's "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus," starring Heath Ledger, will open the 27th Munich International Film Festival.

The fantastic tale debuted in Cannes in May. "Imaginarium" also stars Christopher Plummer and Tom Waits as well as the trio of Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell, all of whom stepped in to play Ledger's character in unshot scenes after the Australian actor's sudden death in January 2008.

Gilliam will head to Munich to present "Imaginarium" in person. The director last attended the German fest in 2006 with his drama "Tideland."

Concorde will release "Imaginarium" in Germany on Dec. 3.

The Munich fest is set to run June 26-July 4.
