Looking Forward to the Release of Dr. ParnassusSaturday, 14 March 2009

After the tragedy last January as I began to process the loss of someone who meant so much, I began to feel like Heath was slipping away: his beautiful soul and generous nature, his energy, his kindness & brilliance. A fear gripped me that his last performance would be shut down and lost to time, stored in the back of a vault to be brought out in 50 years.
It had to be seen; Heath wanted to do that film and would want his work shown.
I felt such gratitude when the film's director, Terry Gilliam, appeared to feel the same way. As an homage to Heath, out of respect and friendship, he knew he had to complete Heath's work. And because of the respect from the peers that Heath had in the industry, three huge names stepped into his hard to follow footsteps. Heath's final performance would be salvaged.
As the film finished principal shooting and entered post-production, word was that it was quickly selling out overseas. Media outlets began to wonder why it had not sold to a U.S. distributor. So a few weeks ago, I contacted several representatives of the film and asked if they'd be interested in help from fansites.
They answered yes. But that they are not ready to begin the marketing phase, yet, and that the film was not even completed post-production. It is currently having it's CGI done.
I was also told that the film had been sold in more than 90% of the world's markets, but that in the US, they were not going to show it to distributors until it was finished.
The current plan for the US, according to one rep who emailed, is for Parnassus to be released in the fourth quarter of the year (Oct/Nov/Dec), around the holiday seasons.
In the upcoming weeks, there will begin a collaborative effort with not just HH, but other fansites, in which the filmmakers intend to address the needs of not just the US, but also the worldwide market.
This will begin as soon as they are ready for that phase of the marketing plan.
Because of this, I have held back in pushing any promotional efforts out of courtesy to the filmmakers. As excited and hopeful as I am about Heath's final movie, I want to handle this in the most professional way as possible, working with the filmmakers on their timeframe and in the manner that they want it handled. I look forward to working with the them and their representatives when the time is appropriate, and they will have HH's full support.
While HH is waiting for the official word, there is no conflict if members want to join other fan efforts to spread the word about Parnassus.
I know Heath will be brilliant, yet again, and Terry's love for his friend, as well as the respect that Johnny, Jude, & Colin all have for Heath, will lead to a film that is portrayed and presented in the most beautiful & heartfelt way.
