New to the site, just wanted to share a short story.

A little over a year ago I went out for drinks with some friends for my birthday. I was trying to concentrate on grad school and deal with my recent break up with my girlfriend of five years. I felt so overwhelmed between that and school that I didn't know what to do.

Everyone had drinks and a good time, and Heath was there. All my friends were having a good time, and I couldn't be anything but depressed. After a few hours everyone stumbled out of the bar, and I'll never forget what Heath did. He came over to me, put his arm around me and said "you do realize you're gonna be fine, right?"

I was thinking about this today...that's the kind of guy Heath was. Here was one of the most famous people on the planet showing concern for someone else when so many others don't. He wasn't a movie star or tabloid fodder. He was a man. A damn good one. That's what separated Heath from a lot of other people "in the business". His genuine kindness was felt by everyone around him and I know I'll never forget it.

Thank you so much DB . . . I can't tell you how important it is for people who've had those experiences to tell them . . . I can't thank you enough for sharing...

This is what I so desperately want people to know, to remember and to understand. . . and I'm hoping to fill the site with stories like that so that as years pass, this is what people will learn of him. This is the lasting, his essence, and it's what people need to know. It's also why he touched so many, even those who never met him. And it's why he was so important . . . even though I don't think he realized how significant he was. He was too humble, and if you told him, would probably have looked at the ground and blushed.

It's always amazed me how people could not see the purity in his soul; it was so blaring ... so gentle, strong yet vulnerable, humble, genuine, compassionate & kind. How could people miss that? Only too late do they understand what the entire world has truly lost. Even he did not know, I'm sure of it.

Thanks again so much for sharing. There's not much I wouldn't give to have experienced him like you did. And again welcome to HH.

What strikes me more and more as I think of this and come back to it is, given that it happened a little over a year ago, Heath would have found himself in almost the exact situation you were at the time . . . He knew exactly what you were feeling and could empathize with you in a way others were not relating to at that exact moment. He identified with you . . . and gave you the support you both needed, the little connection, affirmation and acknowledgment that you both understood each other and what you were going through.

I think he did this sort of thing instinctually, but I also thank Sally so much because I truly believe she helped nurture the compassionate side of him. . .

Thanks again so much for sharing your story. . .

That's such a beautiful story. It's really something to remember. It do hurts thinking about this and knowing he never can do that again and we can never met him. He was so sweet to so much people, even strangers to him. And what Phyllis said, one year ago he was in the situation.... he was so special

What a sweetie he was.....always genuinely concerned about other people, even when he was having such a hard time himself. I hope that your brief meeting with him helped you. I am sure that is a memory you will always cherish. smile.gif
