In our most recent group meeting, the ATTMC decided that since the U.S. distributor is not going to promote Candy in North America, we would contact talk shows and entertainment news shows ourselves.

We need your help. It would only take you about an hour, and doesn't have to be done all at once. But we need as many people as possible.
If you are willing to send emails to the below addresses, we'd be so greatful. There's strength in numbers.

Please write a short letter to the addresses listed at the bottom of this post.
Tell them about Candy and ask them to do a story on the book, film, or schedule interviews with the cast. Your letter will should be tailored to fit whether you are sending it to a talk show ( which concentrates on celebrity interviews) or an Entertainment news show (which does news segments).

PLEASE WRITE THE LETTER IN YOUR OWN WORDS.
If the shows get bombarded with IDENTICAL letters, they may disregard us.

Below are some of the things you might want to include in your short letter:

Candy: Australian film starring Oscar nominee Heath Ledger, Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush. (Can also mention Abbie Cornish, Noni Hazelhurst, and Tony Martin.)
Directed by Neil Armfield
Based on the book by Luke Davies, a fictionalized account of his own relationship with heroin addiction.
Showing at the Toronto Film Festival.
Just won best adapted screenplay at the Australian Writer’s Guild Awards
Candy is having a hard time getting attention in the U.S.
People interested in seeing this film will not get the opportunity unless some major attention is drawn to it.
Sign it from you.

QUOTE

Dear Sir or Madame:

Please consider doing a segment on the small Australian independent film called Candy, starring Oscar nominee Heath Ledger and Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush. Candy tells the story of a poet, Dan, who falls in love with a painter named Candy. Together they struggle with heroin addiction, spiral downhill, try to pick themselves back up, and end up having to make life-changing choices. The film is based the book of the same name by Luke Davies in which he fictionalizes his own experiences with love and addiction.

In spite of a good performance at Australian cinemas, rave reviews at the Berlin Film Festival, and winning the best adapted screenplay from the Australian Writer’s Guild, Candy is having a difficult time being noticed in the United States. It is being shown at the Toronto Film Festival and the Kansas Film Festival, but its release schedule in U.S. theatres is limited to Los Angeles only.

Because of this, an ever growing number of people have become dedicated to getting Candy recognized so that North American film exhibitors will decide they want to show this film. Our hope is that everyone has the opportunity to see this poignant and very important movie. As part of our efforts, we are contacting your show to request you give this small independent film some attention.

Your consideration would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your time.

Sincerely,
Your Name

Thank you all so much for your support and efforts on behalf of Candy.

If you'd like to let us know that you've done some emails, I'd love to have you PM me and tell me! It'll help us get an idea of how many emails are going out. It's not required, of course. And again, all your help is so greatly appreciated.
