NOW that the world is taking him seriously, Heath Ledger is ready for some fun.
The 26-year-old's performance as a troubled gay cowboy in Brokeback Mountain earned him comparisons to Marlon Brando, as well as a Golden Globe nomination.

And the rewards keep coming - in his follow-up role as Casanova, Ledger gets up close and personal with co-star Sienna Miller.

The sexy Briton plays proto-feminist Francesca Bruni in the most recent film about the legendary 18th century seducer.

Ledger flew to Venice to film Lasse Hallstrom's tongue-in-cheek romp the minute director Ang Lee wrapped shooting his adaptation of E. Annie Proulx's story.

The contrast couldn't have been more complete, he told veteran critic David Stratton, co-host of the ABC's At the Movies.

Ledger described Brokeback Mountain as a lonely experience - but said Casanova was a very happy film.

Stratton believes Casanova is a good indicator of Ledger's leading man potential. "He plays that light comedy role rather well," Stratton said.

Stratton describes Ledger's Brando comparisons as "interesting". "I would like to see him do a little bit more first."

Ledger's next project, Candy, has been selected to screen at the Berlin International Film Festival.
