The Kimberley is throwing everything it's got at the cane toad invasion, even acclaimed author Tim Winton.
We’ve got toadbusters, checkpoints and sniffer dogs, and now we’re putting award-winning writers on the hunt.
Tim Winton is the acclaimed author of ‘Cloudstreet’ and ‘Dirt Music’ to name a few.
And he has put his name forward to support the fight against cane toads in Western Australia.
Volunteers for the Great Toad Muster have collected tens of thousands of toads to try and slow their march across northern Australia.
On his first night out mustering toads east of the WA/NT border, Tim's team collected 2300 toads.
At first the massive numbers of toads had Tim thinking the job was impossible.
But by the end of the evening he had realised that hard work and persistence could make a difference.
And the Kimberley could be seeing more of Tim when the film of his book 'Dirt Music' is made in the region.
He's very happy with the choice of Heath Ledger and Rachel Weisz in the lead roles.
