Yes this should be the right size l don't want to make it too big. And l'm just lost where l should do it, plus l need to find myself a good tattoo artist!!! Cause this is drawing like enough but someone who messes it up will only leave me with a midget that looks vaguely like Heath Ledger... smile.gif

l think l'll have the bottom faded out with some small stars and dots and a "nebula" if you know what l mean, l did that for another tattoo l have and it's perfect for this one too.
Phyllis
Where did you get that particular photo? All the photos I have of the painting, one side is so dark, even lightening it does not clearly show the features underneath. I've been looking for one that shows his face better . . . .

I don't know where you should put it . . . my motto (as a woman) is someplace that won't sag. rofl . . . tongue.gif

But also, someplace I can see it . . . look down at it when I need to. Yaknow?
Magical Tink
l just edited the pic you posted here, if you want to l'll post the coloured version of this.

l first edited the pic in colour, then turned it B/W.

My first idea was to put it on the side of my neck next to my ear so that he'd be forever whispering to me but my hairline is there, so the tat would be covered by hair, not what l mean after enduring the pain to get it, plus indeed, l can't see it there and l want to be able to look at it.

Yes, please. Because I have fiddled with that painting using both Corel Photo House and Paintshop Pro, and when I lighten it, it just fades it out. I then try to add contrast, intensity, sharpness, etc . . to get sharper features . . . it doesn't work for me. sad.gif

I've got about 30 versions fiddled with in a file. tongue.gif

What program did you use?

Yes, when you asked where, I thought of making it look like you were being whispered to. But . . . I think the neck is
  1. too obvious to others. there might be places you go or jobs you do where you don't want it so prominent
  2. and you can't see it.

Upper arm might be the place to go, even though everyone gets tatts there. Might still be the best place.

Orrrrr . . . Thinking.gif Upper chest/clavicle.

Definitely NO on the boobies . . . wink.gif

This is the one l turned to B/W for the tattoo, l used photoshop CS 3 l always do, love that programme it allows you to do EVERYTHING!!

IPB Image

Upper arm would be good, but they are taken smile.gif l've already got three tattoo's and two of those are one on each side. Maybe in a bracelet, l thought but that would have to be thought about...

Upper chest...then he'd whisper to my heart not a bad idea at all Phyllis!!!

my answer was fine, go, there's the door. Git... sad.gif

Oooh . . . yours is so much crisper than when I try to lighten it. Can you do the whole painting that way and pm it to me? Maybe one of the larger ones . . . I'd be very grateful. smile.gif

I really like seeing more of his face . . . and my programs just aren't giving me that.

QUOTE(Phyllis @ Mar 17 2008, 10:16 AM) *
ooh btw: I got an email from a fan in Germany, who had the same idea I did and got the identical tatt I did, about 2 days before me. Her artist followed Heath's more closely than mine did. Her's is beautiful. . . . I'm trying to get her to post a pic.

Hehe, quoting myself. tongue.gif

This is Conny's from Germany. She has said I could post her tattoo. I'm only posting the top, as I'm not sure how sacred the bottom is for her. She has her own graphic on the underside.

Conny had the same idea I did, we got ours around the exact same time, and she was fortunated enough to get a good artist. She only took in the tattoo, just like I did, and not Heath's full pic. But the artist recognized it. He said to her, "I know this tattoo from somewhere." So she told him.

He shook his head and said, "That was so sad." He told her he'd be honored to do it, and he was enthusiastic about getting it right. (As opposed to mine who hated the design and did not want to do it at all. Seriously, I felt he did not get the sacredness behind it.) But Conny's artist did. He understood perfectly.

He told her he would only ever ink it once.

Here is Conny's. (She's shy. wink.gif LOL)
IPB Image

That kind of Respect. For Heath, his memory, the sacredness of the piece and it's import . . . That's what I'll be looking for in the artist I get to tweak mine.

Wow Phyllis & Conny ... Heath brought you together with the same tat wink.gif they are both really nicely done. But it's a shame that your tatguy *phyllis* didn't have the same feeling and enthousiasm that Conny's did. I still love the idea of bringing heath's idea and your own idea together to remember him.

Heath and I are singing the same song, each in our own voice.

I like to think of it that way. smile.gif

Nice way to put it!!! And very true too

Thanks for posting a pic of Conny's tat. It looks very nice. Do you think we could get a look at the other side of it?

Yep, he's a git alright. rolleyes.gif He ain't worth it. You know, before I got my tat I was worried what a man would think if I did get one. I am single and worried that a man wouldn't accept me with a tat but then I thought to hell with it and got it done. If someone doesn't accept me with a tat then that is their loss.

Good luck if you decide to get that one done but make sure you find a really good artist to do it.

I think this is a lovely tattoo and you should get it on your upper arm. So it looks like he's whispering to you (and you don't have to worry about a hairline covering it up.

Phyllis
QUOTE(Aussie @ Mar 22 2008, 11:34 AM) *

Hey Phyllis! How is the tat doing? Did it heal ok?

It needs a touchup. . I told you there were some things that I was displeased about. Well, I think that the artist, because he didn't like that I wanted a wrist one, didn't like Heath's tattoo (said it was badly done, badly placed, and a bad design) . . . the more I think about it, the more I think he deliberately half-assed it. I tried to explain to him how significant it was, how sacred, but I could see that he didn't "get it". I asked him . . . so why then do most people get tattoos? He said, "Normal reason. To be cool."

Yeah, he totally didn't get that this one meant more. And trying to explain it kinda got a smirk.

As opposed to Conny's artist, who actually used two needles to get the lines right, and said he'd be honored to do it. Mine only used one needle, and absolutely REFUSED to do it the way it was on Heath's arm. Conny's artist drew it on her wrist so it would be right. Mine seemed incapable of not relying on the stencil, and you know you can't get a 1 dimensional stencil to lay the same on a 3 dimensional wrist. You have to make some corrections with a pen to compensate . . . anyway . . .

Is it still supposed to be flaking? It's lost color and is a bit spotchy in some places. Now I know I messed up the care a little in the first few days, but in other areas, I think he just half-assed it. Some places, he did not get enough ink into my skin, and the color is not consistent anymore . . . so I'm going to have to have a touch-up.

I am not unhappy I got it. I am glad. I just wish I had been more forceful, stood my ground a bit with the artist. When I asked him when I had him redraw it, if he'd draw it the way it was on the photo, he said, "I'll draw it the way I see it." And I should have said, "No. I'm the customer. You draw it the way I see it." Or left and said, "sorry, he and I can't work together, do you have another artist or can I have my deposit back?"

I just need an artist who respects it, ya know?

I'll ask her. But the underside is where the sacred meaning is, you know. wink.gif

Thank you, amnon. I have never gotten around to putting them all on the site. I'm so glad you posted them.

There was also the Matilda one, in red, under his heart. The big black square with the three stick figures on his inner right arm, and the black soaring bird on his inner left arm.

And there were new ones in December . . . but no good photos. An old man in a hat underneath the solar system on his left arm. Some geometric shapes above the dragonfly, next to the sun, moon, earth tatt, and cursive text, lines and squiggles, etc under the dragonfly on his right arm. (no photos)

There may have been one of Michelle, underneath the upper fleshy side of his upper right arm.

All total: 11 or 12, depending on whether you lump in some of the geometric shapes as one.

Good news! I finalised my design a few days ago, with the help of a dear friend of mine, and I contacted the studio where I'd like to have it done. They asked me to come in and show them my design so we can work out pricing and get me booked in (they do have a waiting list, but they have a great rep, so I'm not fussed about that). I'm so excited, but I bit terrified they won't like my design. smile.gif

Congratulations!

And don't worry. I learned the hard way, because I was too intimidated by my "artist" . . . it doesn't matter if they like your design. What matters is that YOU like it. You're the one wearing it FOREVER!

I should have told mine, "no . . . we can't seem to see eye to eye on this, I need to find an artist who will see it like I do." And I should have walked out and forfeited my deposit. Now, I'm stuck trying to find another artist who will touch it up and correct some of the design flaws . . . but one of the most important aspects of Heath's design to me, was done wrong and cannot ever be fixed.

So remember, have it done the way YOU want. YOU'RE the only one who matters. It does not matter if they don't like the design . . . You're the only one who has to like it.

I am blessed that my tattoo artist never questioned my design except for the scale of it. both times I got inked the only question from the artist was how big do you want it?

the owner of the shop when I went in for an estimate for my sun, earth, moon tat was really rude and didn't take me seriously but he didn't do the actual tat so I was happy and it was cheaper than what he told me it would be, so I had the last laugh there.

I'm so sorry you had such a bad experience with the artist who did yours. TBH, I don't quite understand his attitude - even if he wasn't a fan of the design, you wanted it, so it shouldn't have mattered. The fact that he seems to have slightly botched it doesn't help.

Cool! I've actually mocked mine up in photoshop, including the exact size I want, because it's quite intricate and also I really wanted to get an idea of how it would look on my arm. Plus, I could show my friend Sheryl exactly how it was going to look so she could give me feedback. wink.gif

Great find Nina. I loved that about Heath...every tat had a meaning. Some celebs are jumping on the bandwagon and getting tats just to be fashionable. Heath wasn't doing it to impress or make a statement, each tat. had a special, almost sacred meaning. I still find it hard to look at the Archibald painting of him and see Matilda's name under his heart. I simply cannot think of anything more touching and demonstrative of a father's love.
Trekfan
it is very beautiful photo. I wonder how many Tattoos Heath had altogether. probably were some we didn't see. I saw he had one on his left shoulder and also on his left arm that I could not identify.

Phyllis
Thanks so much, Nina. When you view it large, it really is quite breathtaking.

Linda, Heath had some new ones in December that we'll never see. But counted separately, he would have had upwards of 12, maybe more.

It's not as bad as you'll think it'll be while it's being done. I actually watched. But then, I watch blood being drawn. (After having it done so much over the years, you get used to it.)

Hi all!

I've been thinking of a tattoo that reminds me of Heath too, but I didn't know what it should be. Until today.... I suddenly knew I had to get a chess symbol, probably the king, inked on my body. Still not sure where I want it though.

Any thoughts about this and suggestions where to put it?

A Knight would be perfect! Both, as Phyllis said, for the knight of your hearts, but also since it kinda reoccurs through his career. The word is in two of his film titles (AKT, TDK), he dresses up kinda like a Knight in Grimm, and the home made armor in Ned Kelly is also Knight-inspired...

And the chess theme is fantastic!

I love that tattoo, yes. But KAOS were the initials of Heath's sisters and mother.

K = Kate
A = Ashleigh
O = Olivia
S = Sally (his mum)

That meant something special to him. Your words need to mean something special to you.

I had Heath's name put there, instead of KAOS. Connie had a mountain with the sun rising behind it put where the KAOS is. You could put a Heart, or Love, or something secret that represents Heath to you.

My tattoo is very special to me. It represents Heath every time I see it.

both times I got inked the only question from the artist was how big do you want it?
Forgive me for being nosey here, but did you work that out with the artist? Because I want to discuss mine today and that question caught me totally off-guard! *facepalm* wink.gif

But seriously, if you've got an artist who listens to you, then he can give you an idea of how it'll look and if you don't like the size, you have him fix it before he starts inking. Shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Bwahahaha, I really have to look over what I write. laugh.gif

Well, anyway, the guy I saw wouldn't do it the size I wanted. I'm not adverse to a big tattoo (it's not like they can't be covered with long sleevers are whatever for work), but with my particular design...it wouldn't have looked really good. Plus, the dude wasn't all that helpful. I appreciate his point, that what I wanted was fairly intricate and that's why it needed to be bigger but he just didn't seem interested.
