Hi Guys,
I don't remember if I ever commented on this thread, just want you to know that I love all your tatts!!
The horse with the dragonfly in it is perfect!! I'm in love with dragonflies myself and I see them everywhere lately and collect them.
Picca...your Phoenix tatt is so beautiful, what meaning does a phoenix have normally?

I just noticed that I haven't commented here anywhere yet blush.gif
But i am here since a long time already, just lurking I guess smile.gif

Hi Rolie, nice to see you here !!! hug_002.gif

I'm in love with dragonflies since I was a kid and collect them too...but I didn't know the meaning of the symbol before I saw it on Heath.

To your question:
The Phoenix is a mythical bird "that dies in flames and is reborn from the ashes".

So I felt this year after several very bad things has happened - but I survived it. Now I'm "alive" again. So I've got this tattoo. smile.gif
rolie
Of course you are right Lin biggrin.gif
This was my first , had it done last year februari.

This one I got in June this year, it looks a bit crooked in the picture but is perfectly straight on my arm. I have to return in September for a little touch up.

Finally I can post my own tattoo here!! I got it only 5 days ago. It isn't a Heath tribute but I wanted to share anyway.

IPB Image

It says "serenity". It started with a quote I read that said something about Serenity is not freedom from the storm but peace amid the storm. We shouldn't want to escape the bad things that happen in life. Instead we should seek to find the strength to get through them. The bad parts are when we learn the most important things in life.

I also read somewhere once that at one time (I don't know if it is still this way) in Chinese Acupuncture that the inside of the left wrist is where your inner self is. Also, metaphysically, your right arm is where energy flows from your body and your left arm is where energy flows into your body.

So basically it's just my own personal peace sign.
Sugar_Magnolia
Wilma, it is beautiful. That's what I so appreciate about this art form-it is beautiful and highly meaningful. I love that you see it as you own personal peace sign. Very cool!

Thanks everyone, I am in love with mine too smile.gif
I'm a tattoo addict I think, never was that before, but I'm already thinking aout what to get next.
I love yours Wilma.
i didn't know that about the meaning of the wrist, energy flowing in and out.
Heath had his wrist tattoo in his left wrist.Getting mine, it didn't feel right for me ,maybe because I'm left handed. I don't know, this one needed to be on my right wrist laugh.gif

Your tribute tattoos are all beautiful!

I completely agree that the tattoos should be more than just a tribute to Heath, they should mean something to you, and they should be special - you don't even have to show them or tell other people what they are as long as you have them and you know what they mean to yourself.

I myself am thinking of getting a tattoo next year when I turn 18. I haven't decided what I want yet, but I know I want it on my wrist or arm, and I want it to be a tribute to Heath, but have other meanings to, and be unique and special, perhaps with some inspiration from Heath's tattoos!

Phyllis, would you please be able to post the picture you showed the artist for the wrist tattoo? I have a few but none of them are very clear with the whole tattoo in. And also, would you be able to tell me where I can find an image of Heath's actual signature? I've searched around for quite a while but I've found a few different ones and I wouldn't want one inked on me if it wasn't his genuine signature LOL thanks a lot if you can help!

Sorry if this long post has put anybody to sleep, I really do admire you all for this, and I think Heath would smile if he knew that some of us had these tattoos not only in honor of him but because we want to keep them with us all the time because they are so special to us smile.gif
Phyllis
Wow, Rolie! How did I miss your ink! It's beautiful. I love how you blended the tattoos: the lariat, the dragonfly, and the planets. I'm jealous! Awesome. smile.gif

Alex . . . Welcome to HH. welcome.gif

Howdy y'all!

I just today found this thread...` blush.gif

Amazing tats guys!! biggrin.gif

I have two. I got them both the same day. both are on my back. (It was one of those "I better just do them both today or I might not ever come back! things..Lol) I found an amazing artist who was very willing to work with me on the designs. He kept telling me, "I'll do it however you want - you're the one that will be wearing it!" Love the guy!! biggrin.gif
The top one is about 3 X 4 inches, and the bottom one is about 4 1/2 X 5 1/2 inches... my family teases me about my back being a 'canvas' rolleyes.gif

Like Heath's, mine have multiple meanings, all of which go deep within my heart, and some of which is difficult to share.

The one on my upper back is a dove. She represents strength, Love, protectiveness and gentleness - all things I try to be - among other meanings.
IPB Image

The lower one is a bit more complicated. It represents love, patience, faith, promises that haven't come true yet - and hope. The butterflies incorporate all the colors in the rainbow between them. It originally had only 2 rosebuds - one on either side - but after Heath's death, I went back and added a third. That one is purple - to me that just felt like the right color to represent Heath. Its the one farthest to the right.
I can't get into some of the deeper meanings - i'd sound like either an idiot or a crazy person - but those rosebuds all represent very special people in my life. Heath fit right in with my little bouquet of hope.
IPB Image

Oh, the black boxes aren't part of the tat... they are just covering an element that I dont' have the guts to share yet. blush.gif
MrsJoker

Even though I got mine done in honor of Heath long before he passed I'm posting mine anyway because I did it because of my love and admiration of Heath and because Heath was my hero. I picked a tat that he himself had because 1. I loved the design and 2. It was my way of thanking Heath for being the sweet, kind person he was.

I got this tat on July,16,2006. the pic was taken when the tat was only 10 days old.

I was going to a concert that night.

IPB Image

Hi Wendeline!
I´m thinking about getting Heaths circle tattoo as my first one.I´ve very sensitive skin, so this will be a test to see if it works.
Hm,what did you used as a pattern for your tattoo artist?
Can you maybe send me your pattern via email?
That would be great smile.gif
Best wishes!
Phyllis
DeeDeebx, yours are beautiful. smile.gif

I really love the dove; the artwork is really good!

Hello fellow Heathens,

I am new to this place, but I must say I love all of your (tribute) tattoos! It's one of the many things I admired about Heath Ledger - that he was such a tattoo enthusiast!

I got my first tattoo recently and, although it isn't exactly similar to Heath's, it has a personal meaning for me of him:

IPB Image
It is a dove (or swallow) on my wrist and represents the passing of the soul in death.. It also means loyalty to family and loved ones (which fits me perfectly as family is one of the most important things in my life, and I really am only living for my family and friends, to see them grow in spirit). It also to me personally is a reminder to have clarity and appreciate the good things in my life, and not get too down in my thoughts. It is so hard to sum up exactly what it means to me personally.. it's an intimidating thing lol.

Hope you all are well blush.gif

Hello Lin!
Your swallow is beautiful. I think you described the meaning well.
Words don't often truly portray the depth of how we feel about things, though, do they? Probably one reason why we get inked.
Welcome. Glad you shared.

i´m a huge fan of heath and I DON´T LIKE THAT TATTOO AT ALL! I´M REFERING TE ONE IN THE ARM WHICH SAID "Heath Andrew Ledger 79-08", IS SO HORRIBLE..... IS A VERY SAD TATTOO AND I THINK YOU SHOULD COVER IT. I´M SURE THAT HEATH DOESN´T LIKE THAT AWFUL TATTOO. THAT´S ALL I HAVE TO SAY.

Hi Andrea. I generally don't like anything that says 79-08, because it's a reminder of his passing. But if that's what she wanted to put on her body, it's her choice. I would have just chosen the design and left the dates off, but we each decide what is right for ourselves.

However, we have to be careful about calling other people's stuff "awful" and "horrible". We try not to hurt each other's feelings here, and also not to YELL IN ALL CAPS at each other. smile.gif

Hi guys!

I see this topic hasn't been commented in a while, but I'm still gonna write a word or two smile.gif

I love all of your tattoos and ideas, but I kinda have trouble with my own. I've been thinking of getting inked in honour of Heath, something like small H.L. letters on my wrist, but I cannot choose a font, I didn't particularly like anything I've seen. Or maybe it would be better to merge H and L, what do you think? I need help with this, I don't want to mess it up because it's important to me! Any ideas?

That's a hard one, because it's so personal...
To me, I'd merge the H & L, so you know what it is, but it's not overly obvious . . . like your own little secret.

I've never posted the wrist side of mine online, but it's Heath's autograph inside the wrist bracelet. And because it's in his writing, not a lot of people can read it right away... wink.gif

Well since i am a little familiar with getting tattoos (got quite a few) i can tell you it also depends on the artist how much he charges. Some are more cheaper than others. But since this one is kinda "simple" (if you exactly want it like the original), not big and only in black it shouldn't be more than 140 bucks.. if at all (most likely less). Everything beyond that would be a rip-off.

I do plan on getting a dragonfly tattoo on the top of my right wrist (not the exact same one like Heath's though). On the inside i am thinking about to get the leaf tattoo (but still haven't found out yet, what the exact meaning of this was? does it also refer to Nick Drakes "Five Leaves" album??) and/or some quote which refers to him.. like a line of a songtext or so...

you should try these pages to see if you find a fond which makes it harder to read... they got all kinds of different styles on there.

http://www.1001freefonts.com/

http://www.dafont.com/

when you google you are able to find even more pages like that. I used them for some of my tattoos smile.gif

... but I dare not tattoo anything Heath had, I don't know, it would feel really weird.

I completely understand. When he was still here, I would never have gotten one of his personal tattoos, and even advised another member against it, because I didn't think he'd like someone taking his self-designed personal ink. A few month after she posted it on a couple of sites where he would've seen it, he had it inked over with a dragonfly. I always thought that placement might have been partly because he wanted to reclaim its uniqueness.

But after he passed, it was different. It was a really strong need of mine a the time; it had to be as close as possible, and I needed to know I could carry this identical artwork with me forever on my skin.

I felt that if I could ask him at that point, and him no longer being on this "plane of existence", he would not be concerned with something like that and most likely would have understood why I HAD to have something identical. So it no longer felt weird; it merely felt "essential". (If that makes any sense. Thinking.gif

Mine cost me $100 ( €73) + the customary 20% tip (in the states) . . . IF you don't count that I had to have it done twice because the first time it became inflamed and faded in 3 months. Check out your artist carefully ahead of time, and good luck. smile.gif

We were talking about not copying Heath's personal tattoos. . . and I said that when he was alive, I would never have done it. But a friend of mine did, even though I advised her not to. I did not give the girl's name on purpose.

But a few months after she copied one of his tattoos and posted online where he could see it, he changed his.

That's pretty much all there is to that story. LOL

After he passed, I no longer saw it as an issue, and actually needed to have a copy of one of his to carry him with me on my body. But yeah, I never would have copied one when he was here.
